RACINE – Charles Lee Hayes was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday February 13,2022 at Ascension Hospital in Racine, WI, at the age of 79.
Charles L. Hayes was born July 30, 1942 in Alamo, TN. to the late Roland and Lucy Hayes. The Hayes family then moved to Racine, WI in the early 1950’s where he and his nine siblings grew up.
Charles “Hog” as he was known by most, received his education in Racine Public Schools System attending Howell Elementary and Franklin Junior High. Charles left school at an early age to work and help his family financially. He then later returned and went on to receive his Associates Degree in Social Work from MATC and Gateway Technical College.
Charles was a musician, he loved playing the Blues. He started playing music at an early age, something him and three of his brothers took after his dad, as he was a musician himself. Later “Hog” formed a band and started recording and writing music under the named “Delta Blues Hog”. He was well known throughout the Music World for his unique style of guitar playing. Charles was able to travel and play his blues music from Michigan to Memphis and across many states as well as traveling throughout Europe. He will be dearly missed in the Music World.
Charles also loved spending time with his family, especially children and grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking and riding his motorcycle.
He leaves to cherish in memory his children, Warren and Wade of Waukegan, IL. Dean of Michigan, Vania and Charmika of Racine, WI and Tyranni of Louisville, Kentucky. He also leaves his siblings: Mary Carothers of Taylor, MS, Thomas, Robert (Annie), Larry, Joe, JoAnn (Ricky) McMorris, Wilma and Willie all of Racine, WI. He also leaves a special grandson whom he raised Cameron Davis, and a very special friend Patty Hollatz of Kenosha, WI. And many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Lucy Hayes, one brother John E. Hayes, paternal and maternal grandparents. He was also proceeded in death by his ex-wife Dorthy Hayes, his son Bradley O. Hayes and his daughter Linda Harris, mother-in-law Agnes, brother –in-law Cordis Carothers.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, February 25, 2022 for a visitation from 10 -11 a.m. A service celebrating his life and homegoing will follow at 11:00 a.m.

RIP Charles Hayes. Sincere thanks for your efforts to help me with my research of Sonny Boy Williamson (Alex Miller 1912-65), who you shared a stage with twice with your early band in the late 50’s and early 60’s. You loved music. That was obvious when we spoke on the phone and in Racine on a cold January day in 2014 when we met in person with some of your old gang. I’m sure your love of music brought many folks much pleasure.
