Paul E. Carbajal, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by family on October 14, 2022.

Paul was born in Kyle, TX on August 29, 1937, son of the late Cirilo and Josefa (nee: Elizondo) Carbajal. He married Eumelia Santos on February 27, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Racine, Wisconsin.

Paul was the ultimate family man, forming unique relationships with each of his three daughters and showing them how important they were to him. Affectionately known as “Apa,” he enjoyed spending quality time and sharing his sense of humor with the little ones of the family. He made everyone feel special, including his nephews, nieces, and other relatives. He was proud to share stories of his youth with his grandchildren, including details about his work in the cotton and watermelon fields of Arkansas. He enjoyed regular family road trips with many destinations, most frequently traveling between Wisconsin and Texas.

Paul worked for J.I. Case in Racine for 32 years. He served as a faithful member, parish councilmember, and volunteer for Cristo Rey Parish. He was also a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. He was a self-taught builder, renovator, roofer, plumber, and electrician, and he used his talents and expertise to benefit his family and friends with home repairs and improvements.

Paul’s later years in San Antonio were spent improving his yard, growing beautiful roses, following current events and politics, and watching classic western films. His love of music was never ending. He enjoyed singing and dancing to Mexican music, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Tom Jones, and classic rock with his family until his last days.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eumelia; daughters Josie Carbajal, Carol (Dave) Haas, and Jean Carbajal; grandchildren Robert, Adriana (Joe), Ken, Aaron (Kallie), Kristine (Ryan), Paul (Shannon), and Bridget (Rodrigo); great-grandchildren Armando (Zulema), Viviana, Nathan, Nora, Mason, Chloe, Jaxon, Madison, Joseph, Lucia, Emelia, Brooke, and Owen; great-great-granddaughters Isabel and Aurora; siblings Ramiro, Isidro (Lydia), Cutberto (Linda), Tomasa, Aurora, Santos (Cindy), Cirilo, Maria (Modesto), Jesus (Jodi); sister-in-law Maria “Lupe”; brothers-in-law Jesus (Mary), Pedro (Olga), Reyes (Olga), and Joe (Robin).

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Ricarda Carbajal-Faz; siblings Sixta, Nieves, Fernando, Juan, Pedro, and Crescencio; brother-in-law Ciriaco; sister-in-law Elodia; and beloved nephews.

A heartfelt thank you to Three Oaks Hospice of San Antonio, TX for their special care and assistance to Paul and his family.

Testimonials

January 9, 2025

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)

Valerie Tucker and the Family of Barbara Bell
