Racine – Edna Mae (nee: Anderson) Fletcher, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Edna was born in Emelle, Alabama on March 19, 1934 to the late Josiah and Louise (nee: Smoth) Anderson. She graduated from Sumter County High School in York, Alabama. On January 28, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois Edna was united in marriage with the love of her life, Robert Harvey Fletcher Sr., who preceded her in death in 1985. Edna had a profound work ethic, and was employed by American Motors / Chrysler. In retirement, she continued that ethic and worked at J&W Restaurant from 1990 until it closed.

Edna was a longtime & faithful member of Greater Mount Eagle Missionary Baptist Church, where she volunteered in the kitchen, outreach mission, prison ministry, and was a Mother of the church. With old school values, Edna’s hobbies were gardening, thrift shopping, doing laundry and hanging clothes outdoors in her spare time. She loved the holidays with family and friends and enjoyed cooking and feeding them.

Edna was the sweetest and most loving person that you could meet. She was a true people person. If she met you once, Edna inquired about you all the time. She fed the world and would go to great lengths to assist anyone in need. She was a devout woman of prayer who adored the Lord with all of her heart. Edna’s life and legacy were those of the woman described in Proverbs 31. She was the heartbeat of our family. We will treasure the memories we shared with her and keep them close to our hearts.

Surviving are her beloved daughter, Marion D. Fletcher; special son, Terrance (Tameka) Fletcher; grandchildren, Robyn D. Fletcher, Nakisha N. Fletcher,  Zachary M. Fletcher and Christy McGee,  great-grandchildren, Ahman & Az-Zhir Fletcher; sister, Velma Smoth; niece; Edna “Sister” Depenza; special cousin, Edna Pearl Guyse; special family friend, Quincy Cannon; God-Daughter, Vicki Smith; and other relatives, church family & friends.

In addition to her parents, Edna was greeted in Heaven by her husband Robert Sr., and three beloved sons; Robert Jr., Larry, and Michael Fletcher.

The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Compassus Hospice Care and Dr. Mark DeCheck for their care and treatment.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at Greater Mount Eagle Missionary Baptist Church at 929 State Street in Racine, Wisconsin on Friday, December 2, 2022. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am till 11:00 am. Service will begin promptly at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

    RIP cousin Edna.
“When we are small, our mothers are everything to us. Her arms were made to cradle us and provide for all our needs. At first, we don’t want to be separated from her. As time passes, a mother helps us become more independent. Even in our teenage years, we still love our mother even though we don’t show it well, and we finally come to realize the wisdom she has. No matter our stage of life, whether an infant, young child, teenager, or adult, our mother’s love for us is unconditional.” Maya Angelou
