RACINE – Gordon T. Wright, 70, passed away at Ascension All Saints on December 12, 2022, after complications with a life-long battle with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT).

Gordy was born in Racine on February 22, 1952, the son of the late Fred and Agnes (nee Thillemann) Wright. He met Sharon Wald when he was nine and she was seven.  Gordy threw rocks at her to get her attention.   He asked her to marry him when she was fifteen and they were married three months after her eighteenth birthday on December 23, 1972.

He faithfully served his nation with two tours in Vietnam with the US Army.

After his military service, he helped raise his family while working for the Tandy Corporation.   He also enjoyed running and was active with Faith Community Church in Sturtevant.  However, when he was 37, he suffered a series of strokes and heart attacks that prevented him from working and required home care.

Gordy was a loving human being with a fabulous sense of humor and a big heart.  Even in death he was able to help others by donating his corneas for those in need.  He adored being in the company of his family, being in the presence of his dogs and cats and watching the Packers and Brewers.

In addition to his wife Sharon, he is survived by his daughters, Kate (Rich Fisher) Wright, Liz Wright, and Leith (Vicki Simon) Wright; his granddaughter, Bella Wright; his chosen son and caretaker, Duane Campbell; his brothers, Allen (Lynn) Wright, Gary (Lori) Wright; his mother-in-law, Pat Wald; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carrol Wright, Kathy Wright, Sandy (Tim) Ruelle, Cindy (Harvey) Kost, Tim (Michelle) Wald, Les Wald, Jr., a dear family friend, Jewell Nelson (Gordy’s children’s surrogate grandma); as well as many dear nieces and nephews.  Gordy was also preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Donnie, Alex (Joan), and Neil, and by his father-in-law, Les Wald, Sr.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, for a visitation from 4-6 p.m.   A service remembering and celebrating Gordy’s life will follow at 6:00 p.m.  Guests are encouraged to wear Packers or sports apparel in his memory.  The service will conclude with Military Honors.

I know that the thundering sounds in heaven that evening were the Angels kneeling and bowing welcoming Gordy home. In time I hope that the Lord’s love for you clears the gray sky and lets the sun shine warmly upon you.

    Gordy,
I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting you in person, but got to know you through Sharon during our phone calls and texts. I want your loved ones to know that you have taught me so many precious life lessons. Life lessons about love, perseverance, and laughter. Perseverance when the odds are stacked up against you. How laughter truly is the best medicine. Most importantly how to break down walls and find solutions even though you keep hearing it can’t be done. Thank you for your beautiful example of a life well lived, against both physical and mental odds, I cannot fathom. I believe your spirit will live on and continue to teach us every day as we remember you here on earth. My love and sympathy to all those grieving. Please know you have touched my life and I will forever be grateful to have known you.
