Service Details

Family and friends are invited to meet at North Pointe United Methodist Church (3825 Erie Street Racine) on Saturday, May 27, 2023, for a visitation from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. 

 

A service celebrating her life and Homegoing will follow at 12:00 PM with Bishop Charles Jones officiating. 

 

Her interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM.

PONOTOC, MS (FORMERLY OF RACINE) – Mrs. Mattie M. Jackson, known to many as “Mother Jackson,” 85, passed away on May 13, 2023.

She was born in Ponotoc, MS on December 18, 1937, the daughter of the late Willie B. and Lucille (nee Atkinson) Lusk.   She married David W. Jackson on  October 30, 1969.  He preceded her in death on October 21, 1996.

Mrs. Jackson worked as a nurse until 1976.  Shortly after, she started her own cleaning service.

Mrs. Jackson never met a stranger.  She loved to cook for her family and her friends.  She was known for her southern cooking, cakes, and pies and especially her famous hot sauce.  Mrs. Jackson was also very devoted to her Christian faith and her church family. She was First Lady of Mt. Calvary COGIC from 1985 -1996.

She is survived by her children, Johnny Evans of Ponotoc, MS, Hugh Vaughn of Racine, Ann (Bishop Charles) Jones of Caledonia, David W. (Brenda) Jackson, Jr. of Racine, Thomas Evans of Jeffersonville, IN, Ricky Evans of Green Bay and Roger Jackson of New York.  She is further survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her brothers and sister, Willie B. Lusk of Racine, Arthur Lee of Ponotoc, MS, William B. (Carolyn) Lusk of California, Margaret Ann (Henderson) Ramsey of Dyersburg, TN; her adopted sons, Howard Macre of Milwaukee and Adriel Walton of Racine; her godson, Cortez Bell of South Dakota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by two sons, James and Lawrence Evans.

    Mama Jackson, wow I could not believe when I read Ann’s post. So I had to call little sis Ann. Yep it was true. We just talked about a month ago about you not cooking or baking. That broke my heart ❤️. You helped Mama move me to Milwaukee Dec. 19, 1975 and made sure that I was ok . Thank you for the Love and keeping me when they were out of town. Loving ❤️ you for always. To Ann, Charles and the brothers Love you.
