Mal proudly served his nation with the US Army as a surgical nurse during the Berlin Crisis. After his time in the military, he would have a long career as an engineering draftsman with various companies, including American Motors and JI Case where he helped design the big tractors.

He also enjoyed trips to the casino to roll the dice.

Mal is survived by his loving wife JoAnn Anderson Aksland, whom he had known for over 50 years; his brother, Rudolph (Beverly) Aksland; his brother-in-law, James (Helen) Anderson; his sister-in-law, Sandra Mitchell; his best friend, Walter (Gloria) Bowman; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Elaine (George) Christensen, Nancy (Jerry) Jaskulski and Margaret (Bob) Braley, and his brother-in-law, Roger (Shirley) Anderson.

I knew Mal for many years through our mutual friend Dwayne Krause. I’ll always be thankful for sharing a many trips. fishing and hunting with him.
He always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
Before I moved from Racine 20 years ago, he used to come over to my place in Franksville and help Butcher, many a deer! Rest in peace, my friend and shake hands with our old pal Dew
