John T. Anderson, 52, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away at his summer home, in Richland Center, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, following a medical episode. He was born in Waukegan, IL on February 14, 1971, the son of John E. and Margaret R. (nee: Rudd) Anderson.

As a child, John had a passion for basketball and you could always find him on the court or in the driveway playing through his grade school and high school years.  Following his graduation from Zion Benton High School, John worked at the Abbott, North Chicago facility, and then started with the Lake County Maintenance Department. In 1993 John achieved the first of many dreams by starting his own business, Memory Maker Sport Fishing Charters. After 20 years of service with the Lake County Maintenance Department, John retired in the Spring of 2022, to follow his passion and focus on running Memory Maker Sport Fishing Charters full-time.   In the Spring of 2023, John added a second boat to his fleet, the Fiskebat.  John was a true outdoorsman in every sense of the word; especially when it came to fishing and hunting.  If he was not on the water, then you could find John in the woods or working in his barn.  He was passionate about giving back to the lake and fishing community.  John was active in working with the Kenosha Net Pen Program, where he worked with fellow Charter Captains to rear juvenile salmon to be released back into the Kenosha harbor.  John always wanted to make sure that there was a healthy stock of salmon for all future fishermen.  He was also a member of the Wisconsin Lakeshore Business Association, where he further promoted the protection of various fish species in Lake Michigan.

John is survived by his mother, Margaret R. (Arthur) Wierzelewski, of Union Grove, WI; and sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Anderson, of Kenosha. John is further survived by other relatives,an amazing group of friends, and his fishing family. John was preceded in death by his father, John E. Anderson and his beloved dog, Otto.

No words can even begin to express how much John will be missed.  While often a man of little words, he could communicate so much with a simple look, smile, or the occasional one liner that would have everyone laughing.  John, you will forever be missed, but never, ever forgotten.  We love you.

    Marge and Betsy,
I am so sorry that John was taken so young from you. No parent should have to bury a child no matter the age. I will remember him fondly from our teen years and fun we had. He was a terrific basketball player and was cared for by my family too.

Started fishing with John before he bought the new boat. John always worked hard to find fish for us to bring back to Iowa. We will always remember him with warm feelings in our hearts and will miss a great man and a friend.

I just realized that John had passed. We loved chattering with him. More than that he was a great person. He was generous, kind, funny, and skilled. He always had a warm welcome. We actually caught the 2 biggest salmon on his boat in 2020. Great memories with a great guide. You will truly be missed.

My brothers and I fished with John for several years. The best charter captain we ever fished with. Safe, smart, incredibly competent, and lots of fun. We always caught lots of fish. We never talked, though, about how many fish or the biggest fish– always about what fun we had and how incredibly skilled John was. He named his boat perfectly.

We just learned of his death and are shocked and saddened.

    With sincerest condolences,

    Topf Wells
