Service Details

Mary Lou’s funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12th, at 6:00 P.M.  in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Road, Mount Pleasant, WI 53403. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial Suggestions

For those wishing, the family has suggested memorials to the American Heart Association, 1555 N. River Center Dr. #211 Milwaukee, WI 53212

 

Mary Lou Sporer, 91, passed away peacefully at Ascension-All Saints, on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Mary was born in Racine on August 4, 1932, the daughter of the late William and Nellie (nee: Wheeler) Hanson.

On February 27, 1976, she was united in marriage to George D. Sporer Jr., who preceded her in death on October 5. 2011. Mary was a longtime and active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Later, after the church disbanded, she joined Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She enjoyed knitting, Sudoku, crocheting, baking, and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are her three children, Gary (Judy) Smith, of Racine, Sally (Glen) Taylor, of Georgia, and Karyn (Steve) Gustin, of Racine; seven grandchildren, Krysia (Cliff) Weidel, Andrea (Adam) Krueger, David Smith, Chad (Michelle) Zimmerman, Jami (Lenny) Welch, Ashley Gustin, Adrienne (Tony) Johansen; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Vicki Schmidt, of Racine; two sisters-in-law, Janet Claybrook and Marlene Hayes, both of Racine. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive her.  Mary Lou will be missed by her loyal companion dog, Molly.  In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Neumiller and Sally Meteyard; a brother-in-law Earl “Tiny” Smith; and sister-in-law Margaret Salerno.

The family would like to thank the Compassus Hospice Team,  especially Amy and Liz, for the loving care given to Mary and her family.
