Janie Lee Foster entered eternal rest on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Hospice Alliance, located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Born December 24, 1928, at 95, Janie was a proud Nonagenarian, who is someone who has entered their tenth decade of life.
Janie was a beautiful woman, and she aged gracefully. In response to the reactions of strangers, once they became aware of her age, she would laugh and smile giving them a glimpse of her gold framed teeth through her signature red lips and red painted nails.
On December 24th, 1957, her 29th birthday, Janie married Mike Foster, Jr., in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Together they built a home of their dreams where they hosted parties for family and friends in their basement which included a well-stocked bar, good music, and lasting memories. Janie and Mike also attended formal events at the Elks Clubs of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Waukegan, Illinois.
Janie worked as an inspector for American Motors Corporation (AMC) for 30 years, where she served proudly for UAW Local 72 in various positions. She was also involved with AMC’s KeNasha Club, participating in the annual picnics and Christmas parties. She decided to retire from AMC to spend quality time and care for her husband Mike who had fallen ill. Unfortunately, on June 30th, 1988, the day of her retirement, Mike suddenly passed away.
Janie was a ‘doer’ and a ‘seer’, leading her to take part in various social clubs which led her to experience traveling by way of competitive bowling in which she won countless awards. She spoke of being one of the founding members of a lady’s friend group named the Capricorn Club that would meet to wine and dine a couple of times a month.
After retirement, she bartended at her twin cousin’s bar, the Twins Tic-Toc Club.
She also loved fine dining, especially lobster dinners at the old Bartley House, located in Kenosha. This is where it is believed Janie grew a fondness for her favorite cocktail by the name of Tom & Jerry. Later in life, Golden Coral would become one of her hot spots where she frequently dined with a group of great friends who lovingly referred to her as ‘Hollywood.’
Janie leaves to cherish her memory, a niece Yolanda; her Godson, Kirk Grimes of Fitchburg, WI and Craig Mattox of Kenosha, WI; countless family members across the Midwest; a dear friend, Patrice (Pam) Drummond; and her longtime neighbors which include the Mahone, Jelks and Fanelle families. Lastly, Janie loved and adored members of the Swanigan family [Melissa (Warren Mitchell), Michael, Marisa, Deontae, and Treveon] who were the children and grandchildren of her late best friend Bertha Mae Swanigan.
*********
Janie was preceded in death by her parents R.T. & Sula Bowen, siblings Elouise & Dallas Bowen and many Aunts and Uncles.
The family would like to thank Kenosha Hospice Alliance for their dedication in providing compassionate comfort and care for Janie during her stay. Your kindness will forever be etched in our memories.

Testimonials

December 18, 2024

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didn’t stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.

Hilda Balderas
