With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane Sherrice Thomas, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who entered eternal rest on October 18, 2025, at the age of 71. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 18, 1954, Diane was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering faith – a nurturer whose love extended to everyone she met.

After leaving Chicago to build her life in Racine, Wisconsin, Diane built a beautiful life rooted in family, service, and faith. She served faithfully for over 22 years as a Supervisor in the Probation and Parole division for the City of Kenosha, where she was respected and deeply loved by her colleagues. She was a woman of quiet strength – a woman who could listen without judgment, provide wisdom, understanding, and encourage others to see their own worth.

Diane had a gift for pouring love into everything she touched. Her culinary talents were unmatched – her famous lasagna, fluffy dressing, taco soup, and mouthwatering desserts like her Oreo cake, Carmel cake, strawberry cake, and Heath cake became family traditions. Every meal she made was an act of love, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and the smell of something sweet in the oven.

Her creativity extended beyond the kitchen but through her hobbies as well. Whether working on ceramics, playing the latest game that is out, sewing something, or decorating her home, Diane expressed her spirit through art and detail. She found peace in those quiet moments – often with her favorite Gospel or R&B music playing softly in the background or rocking in the chair with her headphones on. She loved her music, and in her later years, she could often be found in her favorite chair, simply listening to her music, praying, reflecting simply enjoyed the stillness.

A devoted woman of faith, Diane was a longtime member of Searching Together Missionary Baptist Church, where she worshiped faithfully and sang soprano in the choir. Her relationship with God guided every aspect of her life and was evident in the kindness, grace, and strength she showed to everyone around her.

Diane’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, and matriarch – the rock of her family. Her hugs were strong, her words were wise, and her love was unconditional. She made each person feel valued and capable, even when they couldn’t see it themselves.

Diane is survived by her loving daughters, Anastasia (Boston) Hunter, TeSherra Lowery, Keona Thomas, and Zsara Thomas, her cherished grandchildren, LaShawna Thomas, Tia (Randy) Mccaa, Danyell Petty Jr, Bryanna Thomas, Kavellis Hadley, Johnnay Ward, Arryanna Thomas, Tazarious Riddle, Tazhaya Riddle, Gregory Jackson Jr., Arbreshon McGruder, Kynnedi-Leigh Harris, A’Reyah Joy-lee Dillard and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will continue to carry her light forward.

She was preceded in death by her father Johnny W. Lawson, her mother, Thelma (Smith) Lawson, her brothers Johnny Lawson, Edward Smith, Michael Lawson, Lawrence Lawson, sister Doris King, former husband whom she truly loved Willie Lee Thomas.

A celebration of Diane’s life and home going service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Searching Together Missionary Baptist Church, 825 Caron Butler Drive, with Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Diane leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength. Though her physical presence will be missed, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire.

As we honor her memory, may we find comfort in knowing that her light still shines – in the hearts she touched, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
