Memorial Suggestions

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be honored in Neil’s name to UW Health Carbone Center and
Gundersen Oncology.

Neil L Tomczak, 73, peacefully passed away at home in La Crescent, MN on November 1, 2025. Neil will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. He was born December 19, 1951 in Racine, WI to Edward and June Tomczak and was a graduate of the Class of 1970 Washington Park High School Racine, WI.

In 1976, Neil married the love of his life, Mary Fliess. Following in the footsteps of his father, he entered a 25 year career in  funeral service as a funeral director. He eventuallybecame the second generation owner of  Wilson Funeral Home  which he purchased from his father, Edward Tomczak. In 2009, after years of dedicated, compassionate, and empathetic funeral service,  Neil was able to sell the business and enter into an early retirement.

With early retirement, Neil and Mary had the liberty to spend more time with family, escape Midwestern winters for the warmth of the south, and travel with a few more motorcycle rides and of course a couple more boat rides. Those who knew and cherished Neil also knew he owned just a few boats in his time with us! Retirement also transitioned Neil and Mary into Snowbirds, spending winters in the likes of Florida, North Carolina, and Texas, enjoying the company of family and friends both new and old in the warm weather down south. Neil always said he put in his winter time and was over it. Neil was most proud of his family, always sharing that pride with friends or whomever was listening. He was always ready for a good time, and had a knack for getting people together, usually followed by a few laughs…”Just ask a Pollak how they pull up their socks?!”

Those that knew Neil well will never forget the iconic “MARY!!!” echoed out from his voice. Neil is survived by his wife, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan & Tarah, Kevin & Krystal; grandchildren: Tanner, Alyson, Brooklynn, Lucy, and Emmitt; brother Mark (Judy); sister, Lynn Margelofsky; mother-in-law, Laydene Fliess; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Petersen, Carol Squires, Jerry(Cheryl) Fliess, Rose(Ray) Olszewski, Connie (Joel) Minton; nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and son, Eric; parents, Edward & June; father-in-law, Norbert Fliess; brother-in-law, Dick Petersen; nephews, Charlie Squires and Joel Minton Jr.

The Tomczak family would like to extend their utmost gratitude and thanks to Dr. Ma and the team at UW Health, Drs. Lindsay Morris and Gil Harmon at Gundersen; the Gundersen Hospice team for their care and compassion for Neil, especially his nurse, Suzy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be honored in Neil’s name to UW Health Carbone Center and Gundersen Oncology.

A gathering and celebration honoring the life of Neil will take place on Sunday November 9, 2025 from 12 noon to 2pm
