Racine – Debra Lynn (nee: Bufton) Bodi, age 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday afternoon, February 13, 2025 at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Deb dealt with multiple health issues over the last few years. Through it all, she was an inspiration to her family on how to face the most difficult hardships in life – with dignity and determination.

Deb was born in Kenosha, WI on June 28, 1956 to the late James and Donna (nee: Hansen) Bufton. She was a graduate of JI Case High School. Always wanting to help others, Deb served as a teaching assistant with the Racine Unified School District for over 23 years, retiring in 2014. On October 24, 1981 in St. Rose Catholic Church, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Kenneth M. Bodi.

Deb was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Her life revolved around family and her greatest joy was being with her husband, children, and five grandchildren.

Surviving are her loving husband of over 43 years, Ken; son, Matthew (Genna) Bodi of Racine; daughter, Christina (Matthew) Gilliland of Pleasant Prairie; grandchildren, Bradley, Charlotte & Benjamin Bodi and Penny & Henry Gilliland; sister, Pamela Leonard; nieces, Amber (Jordan) Milojevic, Nicole (Paul) Blount and Jamie Leonard; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Tom (Kathy Truss-Bodi) Bodi, Sue Bodi, Sue (Bill) Howland and David (Heidi) Bodi; other special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends – too numerous to mention all by name.

In addition to her parents, Deb was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Bufton; Ken’s parents, Robert and Margaret (nee: Noe) Bodi; brothers-in-law, Rick and Ray Bodi; and sister-in-law, Mary Bodi.

I was fortunate to work with Deb at Giese Elementary School. She was so very kind to staff and students alike. A smile from Deb at the beginning of the day made everything go great. Deb generously shared her smiles and care as she half ran to be helpful wherever needed. In my mind, I don’t remember Deb walking; she hustled.
Deb was so proud of her family; may memories bring you comfort.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

It has been a long while in business since I have experienced and witnessed someone be truly great at what they do. That was my experience with Mike and team. Above and beyond hardly encompasses their professionalism and compassion during our family’s bereavement.

Thank you most sincerely,
Jason C.
