Dian Renee Sorenson

Mar 20, 1943 – Oct 18, 2014

Mount Pleasant – Dian Renee Sorenson, 71, received the promise of eternal life on Saturday, October, 18, 2014, surrounded by the love of her family at her home.  She was born in Washington D.C. on March 20, 1943, daughter of the late Richard Duus and Naomi Olson (formerly Duus).

Dian received her degree from Alverno College in 1971.  She worked for approximately 30 years for Racine County in the Waterford School District as a special education instructor.  She was united in marriage to Robert Sorenson on July 6, 1991 in Racine.

Dian’s spirit of adventure took her many places.  She visited many national parks in her lifetime.  Dian camped on the river shore during two rafting trips on the Salmon River in Idaho.  She camped and saw the big trees in the Redwood Forest and Sequoia National Park in California.  Dian hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.  One of her favorite places was Yellowstone where we camped many times.  She endured two visits to Key West, Florida.  She loved nature and wanted to see it all at its fullest. Dian was an active member of the Sierra Club.  She was the coordinator for the yearly calendar sales for the club.  Bob had the opportunity to develop her spirit of adventure in his own life and joined her on many of her adventures.

Dian leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Bob Sorenson of Racine; her son, Derrick Lewno of Tucson, AZ; grandsons, Garret and Nathan Lewno; Bob’s children, Chris (Lisa) Sorenson of Racine, Laura Mulvenna of Burr Ridge, IL, Wendy (Guy) Leach of Spring Valley, Summer (Mike) Anderson of Fon Du Lac, Ashlee Sorenson of Racine, Lauren (Scott) Hillis of Racine; Bob’s twelve grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Anne) Duus of Duluth, MN, Louis Olson of Pollock, SD, Calvin (Lori) Olson of Pierre, SD, Erlane Olson of Las Vegas, NV, Rex Olson of Webster, SD; her animal companions, Kelso and Frisco; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to her parents, Dian is preceded in death by her brother, David Duus; and step-father, Otis Olson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 11:00am, at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:30am until the time of the service.  According to Dian’s wishes, cremation will follow the Mass.  Interment will take place in South Dakota at a later date.  The family has suggested memorials to The ALS Association.

The family would like to give special recognition to Society’s Assets and all who helped Dian on her journey, especially, Kate, Natallia, Michelle, Maggie, Shardae, Courtney, Lindsey, Linda Rice, and all others who helped as needed.  Also, a special Thank You to Dr. Sherif Gobrial and his nurse.

Testimonials

Helene Hellesen

Bill’s service was beautiful, beyond belief. Leslie was priceless in all she did. Gary, knowing Bill for many years, said a few words at the service. The special touched I didn’t expect warmed my heart. Two very, very special people helped make a sad day into something very special.

Thank you to all those that helped behind the scene, setting up, opening doors. My heart is full.

Bless you.
