Racine – Dorothy Ann (nee: Tamm) Bakke, age 94, passed away peacefully at St. Monica’s Senior Living on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.

Dorothy was born in Franksville, WI on August 1, 1924 to the late William and Ida (nee: Spang) Tamm. She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1942.  Dorothy was united in marriage with the love of her life, Carlton Rice, on September 15, 1943.  During her career, Dorothy worked for the Franksville Post Office and In-Sink-Erator, as well as a waitress at Kilbourn Gardens before owning & operating Franksville Specialty Company, which manufactured safety belts and udder supports for cows.

With a profound Catholic faith, Dorothy was a member of St. Peter Parish in Eagle River. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Past-President of the BPW (Business & Professional Women). Among her interests, Dorothy enjoyed flower & vegetable gardening, sewing, knitting (especially for infants in the hospital) and praising God by faithfully attending daily Mass and praying the Rosary. Above all, Dorothy loved spending time with her entire family.

Surviving are her children, Kay (Frank) Prevatt, Nancy (Al) Noll Sr., Charles (Sharon) Rice & William (Barbara) Rice; grandchildren, George (Jara) Gillett, Tammy Steege, Jon (Terrie) Gillett, Allan Noll Jr., Charles Rice Jr., Jeffrey Rice, Christopher Rice and William (Chrystal) Rice; 6 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William & Ida Tamm; beloved husband, Carlton Rice; brothers, Harold (Raymel) Tamm & George (Mary Ellen) Tamm; and sisters, Florence (Lawrence) Ruetz, Geraldine (Gus) Bakke, Norma (Garry) Minikel & Sylvia (Everett) Peterson.

Of my many memories of Aunt Dot is that she worked really hard, loved her parents, brothers and sisters and her family. She loved a party and could always make you laugh. Nancy and I and my mom would often go to lunch. With her and Nancy’s joking back and forth you’d think I was at a Comedy Club. Most of all, she had such a deep love for God and the Virgin Mary and that carried her through her life and brought her home. I can only aspire to have such a deep faith. I will miss her and I sure hope they are getting her cocktail right in her forever heavenly party.

Many thanks to Bob and the staff of Draeger-Langendorf. This has been the hardest of times in my families lives and you were very attentive and helpful with all that needed to be done. The tribute that you created for my mother was beautiful and I shall not forget it. God bless all of you.
