Harold C. Nelson

Nov 25, 1919 – Jan 21, 2009

Harold C. Nelson, 89, passed away in Lakeshore Manor on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. He was born in Brooklyn, WI on November 25, 1919 the son of the late Albert and Ruth (nee: Potts) Nelson. He moved to Racine in 1925. Harold served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor when he was stationed at Wheeler Field. On September 13, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, he married the former Betty Jane Kass. She preceded him in death on January 29, 1983. Harold had been employed by the Racine Unified School District for over 13 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1391 and Local #152. Harold enjoyed stockcar racing and taking long trips by car. Surviving are his children Terri Nelson and Wayne Nelson both of Racine. In addition to his parents and his wife, 2 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death. A private funeral service was held in the funeral home on Friday, January 23, 2009. Rev. David Echelbarger officiated. Entombment, with full military honors, followed in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family has suggested memorials to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research.
