John was a classic gentlemen, always kind and smiling pleasantly. We enjoyed visiting with him at the RSO concerts and anywhere else our paths crossed. He will be truly missed. Rest in peace, Dear Man.

John and I became friends when I played in a bridge group with his wife Mary. After Mary died he was a frequent guest to my condo in Naples Florida. We enjoyed playing duplicate bridge there and attending the arts of music and lectures.John was the director of duplicate at the Y in Racine and insisted that I learn duplicate..he was most patient. We attended the Chicago Symphony many times and the Racine Symphony.

Unbeknown to many..John helped the poor..served at St.Patrick’s Church meal program ..he and his son remodeled a bath for a disabled man and donated food to this man.

John and I remained friends for many years and his Christian compassion for many will remain in the memories of many.

John was such a wonderful man! I met him as he was a good friend to our good friend, Sally Keppler (Grandma Sally to our girls). John was always happy and so kind to those he was around. I will always remember how thankful he was when I would come stay with Sally (when her illness had progressed to needing care) once a week so he was able to go and play bridge for the evening. I would tease him that he was getting me away from baths, making lunches and homework at my house and so I was the one that was thankful. John took the best care of Sally and treated her so well to the end. I will never forget that. Dave was his “supplier” of shrimp for his family holiday events for quite a few years and we were always happy when he stopped over or when we’d run into him around Racine or serve with him at the meal site at St. Patrick’s. Rest in peace John. You lived a good and faithful life. Sending prayers of comfort to his family, Anita and his friends.

Testimonials

March 13, 2025

Thank you so very much for the exemplary care that you provided for both our mom and dad. Your family is extremely kind and exudes much empathy towards others. You and your staff display much professionalism with great talent and attention to detail. Mom and dad were always very particular in their appearance. Mom would say, You are leaving a lasting impression of yourself with someone to remember you by. Your parents taught you boys well; be very proud of that! Love on them, as death is so very permanent.

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.

I thank God every day for our Ostergaard family and will always cherish the memories.

Love you,

Jody Burlingame Wagner
