Joyce Evelyn McKinley Shaw departed from this life peacefully at home on August 2, 2023. She was born on May 1, 1934, in Dewmaine, Illinois. She was the third daughter born to Edward and Edmonia McKinley.  Joyce graduated from Attacks Senior High School in Carbondale, Illinois, where she also attended Southern Illinois University. She later relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where she was trained in Radiology Technology. While living there, she met and married Louis Shaw.  Joyce then moved to Racine, Wisconsin, where she completed a thirty plus year career in Radiology Technology, last working at Kurten Medical Clinic.  Joyce was an active member of Wayman A.M.E.  Church, serving in various auxiliaries.  She was preceded in death by both parents, her sister, Wandella (Charlie) Price, and her brothers, Wilbert (Alma Jean), Kenneth (Iantha), and Edward Jr. (Ellen).   She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Shaw, her grandson, Bradley (Moriah) Shaw, and three great-grandsons, Pryce, Kingston, and Jaxson.  She is further survived by her sisters, Sylvia (Eloda) Morrison, of Kansas City, Missouri, Betty (Biven) Johnson, and Norma Brown, both of Racine, Wisconsin., and her nieces and nephews, some of which she taught Spanish, and some of which she would promise to take to the Dollar Store if they were good.  The family would like to thank all those who reached out, prayed, and those who are present with them here today.

If we are absent from the body, we have the opportunity to be present with the Lord. Sister Shaw, her daughter Kim, and I worshipped together for many years at Wayman AME. Her testimony always demonstrated she was a child of God. She was person of integrity and grace. Whether you would meet at church, Kurten Medical, or run into her at Piggly Wiggly on Durand, she always would be that same graceful person. Kim and family I imagine you feel a void. But you know God has the strength and power to bring you through. The Gregg Chapel family and I, lift you up to God in prayer. Sometimes we don’t know what to say or do, but we serve a God that finds nothing impossible! ,

So sorry to read about Joyce. I worked with her at St Luke’s. She taught us about the job but also how to enjoy life!

Kim, family and friends, my sincere condolences and sympathies for your loss. I too worked with Joyce in the St Luke’s Radiology Department. Always enjoyed “hiding out” in Radiation Therapy and exchanging lively conversation and laughter with Joyce. Such and kind and thoughtful person, she was perfectly placed in caring for patients in that department. She is one of my many fond memories of St Luke’s and she joins many who preceded her to Heaven. May she forever rest in peace.

Kim, I’m so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a beautiful person inside and out. My memory of her takes me back to when we were in the choir at Wayman A.M.E Church and your mom would transport us around wherever we had to sing. I offer my heartfelt condolences.

Testimonials

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)
