
Marie Elizabeth Skowronski, 91, went to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, August 4, 2016. She was born in Racine on June 19, 1925, daughter of the late Anton and Theresa (nee: Juracek) Kozenski. Marie graduated from Horlick High School in 1943. On July 31, 1948 in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, she was united in holy matrimony to Benny F. Skowronski. He preceded her in death in 1993. Marie had been employed at Woolworths, SC Johnson, and the O’Neil Leather Company until she retired in 1986.
Marie was an active and faithful member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and later at St. Richard’s Catholic Church where she served on the church council. She was a talented artist; a member of the Racine Art Guild; and participated in the Senior Art Group meetings at the Chavez Center. Her artwork has been displayed during the Art Walk, the Starving Artist Fair; and in local art studios. She loved gardening and baking; and co-authored a cook book, “From Our Kitchen”, a collection of recipes from the members of St. Stanislaus church. Marie loved life and lived it to the fullest. Her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends brought her much happiness.
Marie is survived by her children: Kathy (Jim) Reynolds of Gresham, Jane (Steve) Peterson of Kenosha, and Sally (Mike) Johnson of Racine; grandchildren: Casey (Brian) Blair, Cindy Peterson, Rob Johnson, and Lisa Johnson; great-grandchildren Camden and Parker Blair; brother Tony (Virginia) Kozenski; sister Lillian Neumann; sister-in-law Hattie Tutak all of Racine; as well as other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Wencel Kozenski and Joseph Kozenski; sister Celia (Paul) Schmidt; brothers-in-law: Clarence Neumann, Leo Tutak, and Ed (Dorothy) Skowronski; and sister-in-law Midge (Jerry) Mueller.
The celebration of her funeral mass will be held in St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church (1509 Grand Avenue) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 with Rev. Ron Gramza officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will be private.
