Service Details

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at Searching Together Missionary Baptist Church, 825  21st Street in Racine, on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Evelyn Kirk officiating. Viewing will be in the church on Saturday from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Private family committal will take place on Wednesday June 28th, 2023, at 9:00 am in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Mount Pleasant – Merida (née: Price) Kirk-Griffie, age 94, passed away peacefully at home early Friday morning, June 16, 2023.

Merida was born in Enterprise, Mississippi on February 14, 1929 to the late Alphonzo and Merida (née: Cole) Price. She married David Kirk in 1947 and he passed away in 1972. Later, she married William Charles Griffie, who passed away in 2006.

Merida was a Mother Board Member of Searching Together Missionary Baptist Church. Merida worked in environmental services for the Danish Home, St. Luke’s Hospital, Rainfair and JI Case Corp., from where she retired. Among her interests, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, exercising, shooting pool & darts, dancing and family gatherings.

Surviving are her daughters, Dianna Hines and Evelyn Kirk; and sister Lillie Louella Price; daughter in-law Rose Kirk, son in-law Claude B. (Mary) Hamilton,  seven grand -children, and four great- grand- children.

In addition to her parents & husbands-, Mother Kirk-Griffie was preceded in death by her daughter Lottie Bell Price, her son’s; Zenith Kirk, David Kirk, Jr., and Willie Kirk, and five brothers and six sisters.

Special friends; Mary Lacy, Donald Gillispie, David Landry, Archie Monroe, and Rickey Moore.

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didnt know what to expect. We didnt have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didnt stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.
