Service Details

A celebration of Metherine’s life and homegoing will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021, 11:00am, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.

Metherine Harvey, 68, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021.  She was born in Valley Park, Mississippi, on December 15, 1952, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Rosa Lee (Née: Wilson) Harvey.

Metherine was a music lover, especially the blues, and artists like BB King and Tyrone Davis.  She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.  Metherine was a fantastic cook and her family loved to eat whatever she was cooking.  She will be missed tremendously by her family and friends.

Metherine leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Delia (Wayne) Bowens, Angelia Harvey; grandchildren, Dawaylon Harris, Deaysia Harris, Mahogney Coleman, Dijonnaise Belcher, Dre’Anna Belcher, Dashon Harvey, Martice Harvey, Jilisa Martinez, James Harvey, Jr.; twelve great-grandchildren; twin sister, Lear Harvey; brothers, James Clark, Elijah Wilson; godsons, Antonio Ware, Perry Harris, Marcus Perry; goddaughter, Beatrice Wilson; dear friends, Michael Cunningham, Gwendolyn Patterson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to her parents, Metherine is preceded in death by her son, James Harvey, Sr.; sisters, Rose Gibbs, Mary Robertson; brother, Bobby Wilson; sister-in-law, Brenda Clark; great uncles, Jessie Smith, and L.C. Wilson.

    I was saddened to hear of the passing of your Mother. She was a wonderful lady with a beautiful spirit. I always enjoyed talking to her. She loved her children. She is in heaven watching over you. Keep her memory close to your heart. May God bless you now and always.

Thank you so very much for the exemplary care that you provided for both our mom and dad. Your family is extremely kind and exudes much empathy towards others. You and your staff display much professionalism with great talent and attention to detail. Mom and dad were always very particular in their appearance. Mom would say, You are leaving a lasting impression of yourself with someone to remember you by. Your parents taught you boys well; be very proud of that! Love on them, as death is so very permanent.

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.

I thank God every day for our Ostergaard family and will always cherish the memories.
