Racine, Wisconsin – Mother Betty Jo (nee: Slade) Ramsey entered this life March 26, 1941, in Strong, Arkansas. She was the second daughter and fourth child born to George Slade and Carrie Bell (nee: Harrison) Slade. She became absent from her body and present with the Lord on Monday, January 24, 2022.

In 1959, Betty was a graduate of Lake Village Central High School in Lake Village, Arkansas. The summer after graduation she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. She would later become the owner operator of the first ever black-owned daycare in Racine, the Mother Goose Daycare Center. She retired from the University of Wisconsin Extension Food and Nutrition program where she worked as a nutrition educator teaching young mothers how to properly feed their families.

In 1960, Betty got saved at the Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ under Pastor O.C. Davis. A year later September 9, 1961, Betty was joined in marriage to George Franklin Ramsey Sr., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and from this union came six beautiful children.

George and Betty founded Shiloh Stronghold Church of God in Christ (Racine) and pastored Rose of Sharon Deliverance Church (Milwaukee) where they served the communities and brought many to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Apostle George F. Ramsey Sr.; Parents, George and Carrie Slade; brothers, George Slade, Michael Slade, and George Slade Jr. (nephew AKA Baby Junior); sisters, Florial (Johnny) Wilson, Gwen Franklin, and Marie (George) Leazer.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children:  Betty J.   Ramsey, George F. Ramsey Jr. (Pamela), Elijah D. Ramsey (former spouse Neregin), Geoffrey F. Ramsey (former spouse April), Pastor Elias D. Ramsey (Raquel), and Sarai V. Ramsey; nine grandchildren:  Elisha N.R. Ramsey, Rachael C. Ramsey, Alexander F. Ramsey, Aaron F. Ramsey, Brielle E.J. Ramsey, Elaija F.J. Ramsey, Tevin G. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. We are confident and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. May you, Mother Ramsey’s children find comfort in knowing that your beautiful mother is resting in the Lord. May God continue to keep you in His care.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Brian and the rest of the staff, we just wanted to take a moment to thank you for handling every detail of our mom’s (Vera Miller’s) funeral so expeditiously and flawlessly. Being here in North Carolina, I was worried about getting mom back to WI which was her wish. All I had to do was make one phone call to your office and you seamlessly got her from Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC back to WI.

All of the arrangements were so impeccable; pictures, book for signing, flowers, thank you and acknowledgement cards, arrangements with Graceland Cemetery, and even playing our slideshow with music and photos, and getting it to loop properly.

You took so much worry off of me and my siblings by professionally stepping in and handling everything for us. I was going a little crazy thinking I had to do it all, but you helped so much that we just needed to share these thoughts and feelings with others. Thank you for everything,

– Vicky Coerper, Janice Miller, Kenny Miller and Monica Bailey
