Raymond (Ray) C. Svendsen, 95, passed away peacefully at Lakeshore at Siena, on Thursday, March 28, 2019. Ray was born in Superior, NE on February 11, 1924, the son of Marius and Marie (nee: Gregersen) Svendsen.

Ray served his country in the U.S. Army. On May 28, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Racine, he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Dorey, who preceded him in death on February 1, 2014. Ray, along with two of his brothers, owned and operated Svendsen Brothers Construction for 38 years. Ray was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, the Ives Grove Senior Golf League, and a longtime and faithful member of the Kiwanis Club of West Racine. He enjoyed woodworking and bowling. Ray and Margaret enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Ridge Runners Square Dance Club and also enjoyed camping with their family and friends from church.

Ray and Margaret raised four sons and enjoyed spending time with their family. They welcomed two foreign exchange students to the family; Mariano Vảsquez, from Santiago, Chile, and Gianni Fumagali, from Milan Italy. Mariano, and his wife, Margarita and their children, remain close members of the family to this day.

Surviving are his sons, Burton (Nancy) Svendsen of Rushford, MN, Jerry (Gail) Svendsen of Bloomington, IN, Dale (Leslie) Svendsen of Sacred Heart, MN, Mark (Lynn) Svendsen of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren, Mark, Joseph (Jillian), David, Emily (Joe) Matson, Matthew (Amanda), and Lydia (Joshua) Svenulski; three great-grandchildren, Colton Matson and Ava Svendsen of Racine and Henry Svendsen of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Alvin Svendsen of Minneapolis, MN, and Vernon (Willine) Svendsen of Racine; and sisters-in-law, Florence Svendsen of Muskego and Marion Svendsen of Racine.   His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive him.

In addition to his parents and wife, Margaret, Raymond was preceded in death by his brothers, Marius, Ruben and Einer of Racine; his sisters Anina Jacobson of Racine and Edith Juul of Hutchinson, MN; sisters-in-law Evelyn and Janet of Racine; brothers-in-law Lawrence Jacobson of Racine and Harold Juul of Hutchinson, MN.

It is with great sorrow that I am sending my condolences on your recent loss. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I and would like to share a scripture that has benefited me and many people in time of grief. God reassures us of something wonderful in the Bible at Acts 24:15. It says, “There is going to be a resurrection.” Along with God’s promise to us at Revelation 21:3, 4 of sorrow, death, and pain being done away with permanently.

It is my hope that this bit of information is of comfort to you. Please be sure to find further information regarding the resurrection at: JW.ORG

    May God be with you.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

We would like to personally thank Brian for what a warm, compassionate funeral you arranged. You always put our thoughts first and answered and responded to my many phone calls about everything. The artistry of the belongings of our son was amazing. Everything was so beautiful. So many people complimented on how the arrangement was set up by you. We as a family will never forget what you did for us in our time of need. Thank you very much Brian.
