Service Details
Family and friends are invited to meet at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church (1700 S. Green Bay Road) on Sunday, November 6, 2022 for a visitation from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
A service celebrating and honoring his life will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Beth Ann Stone officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery at 10am on Monday, November 7, 2022.

CALEDONIA – Rev. Fred H. Hofer, 86, passed away at St. Monica’s Senior Living on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
He was born in Blue Island, IL on July 25, 1936, the son of the late Fred H. and Clara H. (nee Danner) Hofer, Sr. He graduated from Capital University and then Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio on June 17, 1962.
After seminary, Pastor Hofer accepted a call to ministry in Ethiopia with the American Lutheran Church where he served for eight years. It was there that he met Nancy M. Larson. They were married on April 14, 1963, and started their family while living and working in Ethiopia.
During his 60 years of ordained ministry, Pastor Hofer also served as pastor at various Lutheran congregations in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin; locally he served Our Savior’s Lutheran (now Living Faith) in Racine from 1980-88. He also served as Director of Pastoral Care at Lincoln Lutheran of Racine from 1989-2003. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church. In retirement, Fred enjoyed traveling with Nancy, spending time with his grandchildren and volunteering in the local community. He was an avid reader of history and enjoyed a variety of music.
Pastor Hofer is survived by his daughter, Rev. Denise (Exaudh) Mbise; his son, Joel Hofer (Kelly Johnson); his grandchildren, Aliliywa, Alexander and Anna-Lisa Mbise; his brother, Rev. David (Kathy) Hofer; his sisters-in -law and brothers-in-law, Ann Hofer, Karen Hodgkins, Roger (Melody) Larson, and Mary (Ron) Combs; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his sister, Ruth (Len) Fasick, his brother, William Hofer, his sister-in-law, Arlene Larson; and his nieces, Kimberly Reames and Karen Hofer.

The family would like to thank St. Monica’s Senior Living for the loving care they provided. Special thanks to Shannon. He enjoyed living there the past few years.

RIP Pastor Hofer. Wonderful man that baptized my son and confirmed me at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church many years ago. We had many conversations that warmed my heart and soul. My condolences to the family.
