Richard Fredrick Kowalsky

Dec 4, 1927 – Apr 16, 2009

Racine – Richard F. Kowalsky, 81, passed away unexpectedly at Mount Carmel Medical & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Richard was born December 4, 1927, son of the late William J. and Mary A. (nee: Held) Kowalsky. Richard was a life long resident of Racine. He enlisted in the United States Navy on July 6th 1949 and proudly served as a Seaman aboard the U.S.S. William C. Lawe (DD763) 2nd Division from 1952 to 1953. He returned to naval reserve until his Honorable Discharge on July 15, 1954. Richard worked For Wisconsin Metal Products of Racine and retired as the Shipping Supervisor in 1989. Richard enjoyed many hobbies through out his life. He was president of the Racine Bicycle Racing Club. He also enjoyed photography, woodworking, stamp & coin collecting, model building, and classic cars. He is survived by his sister, Mary Braun; sister-in-law, Betty Kowalsky; nephews, Thomas (Michelle) Braun, Michael (Debbie) Braun, Howie (Julie) Herman, Bob (Susan) Kowalsky, and Bill Kowalsky; nieces, Marlene Braun, Judith Braun, Kathy Phelps, Mary Katherine Herman, Linda (Joe) Matte, and Mary Jo (Steve) Cappelen; and many great, and great-great nieces & nephews; as well as friends to numerous to mention. Richard was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria Kowalsky, Annamae and Howard Herman, and Jerry Braun; brothers and sister-in-law, William and Mary Kowalsky, and Joseph Kowalsky; and nephews, Jerry Braun and William Herman. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009. Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Interment services will be private. The Family Wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mount Carmel Medical & Rehabilitation Center for their loving and compassionate care.
