Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue

Visitation: in Saint Lucy Church on Friday from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Racine – Ruth Mary DeMint; age 90; passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 surrounded with the love of her family.

Ruth was born in Racine on January 21, 1927 to the late James and Magdalan (nee: Steiner) Peyton. Following the ninth grade Ruth left school to go to work for St. Mary’s Hospital to help out her family. She then went on to work at Western Printing for several years and later Westview Nursing home for several years.

On January 19, 1952, Ruth was united in marriage with the love of her life, Gilbert Wesley DeMint. She was a member of St. Patrick, St. Paul the Apostle and St. Lucy Catholic Churches. Among her interests, she enjoyed traveling, growing a big vegetable garden and many beautiful flower gardens every year, playing cribbage, cooking and trying new recipes, baking cookies to gift to the entire family at Christmas, and doing crafts with her daughters. Above all, Ruth was a devoted wife and mom who always placed her husband, children & family first in life.

Surviving Ruth are her children, Thomas DeMint, Stephen (Sawyer) DeMint, Colleen Kochel, James DeMint and Donna Marie (Bill) Robnett; daughter-in-law, Nelida DeMint; grandchildren, Joshua (Meghan) DeMint, Meagan Kochel, Benjamin (Emily) Kochel, Gilbert DeMint, Lian DeMint and Daniel DeMint; brother, Jerry Peyton; sister Mary (Dave) Jones; brother, James (Cheryl) Peyton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert Wesley DeMint; her beloved son Michael David DeMint and beloved grandchild, Jeremy DeMint. Additionally, she was also preceded in death by her parents, sister and brothers, Kathleen “Kay” Nelson, John “Jack” (Carol) Peyton, and Donald (Marilyn) Peyton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, with Fr. Terry Huebner officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.

A special note of thanks to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for the compassionate care and support given in Ruths’s time of need. May God bless all of you!

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.
