Racine, WI – Stacey Bland, age 58, answered The Call of his Loving Savior on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Racine, Wisconsin, after an illness.  He was born on September 7, 1963, in Racine, Wisconsin.  He was the youngest of five children born to Willie and Ruby (nee: Miller) Bland.

Stacey accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of Mount Eagle Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Charles E. Thornhill.  He later united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby. He was a devoted Christian and active church member, including singing in the male chorus and praise team.

Stacey married his soul mate, his steadfast rock, and his inspiration, Karlos (nee: Graham) Bland. He loved being with his family and friends, often traveling to visit them. You usually found Stacey with a smile on his face, saying a kind word, teasing, laughing, and joking. Stacey always encouraged others to be involved in life-he had a way of bringing out the best in you.

Stacey attended Racine public schools from pre-school to high school. He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1981. At Park, Stacey played basketball and volleyball. In 1980, Stacey was selected to the 1st team, All South Shore Conference boys’ basketball team, and in 1981, he was selected to the 2nd team, Racine County boys’ basketball team. He was also one of Washington Park High School’s representatives to Badger Boys State in 1980.

After high school, Stacey attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he played on the men’s basketball teams. He was a member of the 1983-84 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s basketball team that earned the school’s first NCAA Division III Championship. The team was inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.

In 1986, Stacey graduated from UW-Whitewater with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He was chosen as the university’s outstanding African-American student in the College of Letters and Science that year. Stacey remained active in sports in his later years, particularly basketball and golf. He coached youth basketball and served as a referee. Golf was one of his passions, which he played often.

Stacey worked for national and local companies, such as Badger Meter, CNH Capital, and Modine Manufacturing, primarily in sales and customer service positions. He was always actively involved in the community. In 1999, Stacey was an inaugural graduate of the Racine Leadership training program. He also participated in other civic, church, and social functions, such as serving as a featured speaker at a Racine Black History Youth Achievement Awards Program in 1998 and co-chairman of the 2004 Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast.

Stacey Bland was not only a wonderful husband, but a wonderful father, grandfather, best friend, colleague…and so much more.

He will be missed more than words can express.

Stacey leaves to cherish his loving wife Karlos Bland of Racine, WI.; daughters Dominique (Rickey Walls) Meeks of Minnetonka, MN., LaTasha (Phillip Henley) Fenderson of Racine, WI. and Rayna Graham of Charlotte, NC.; sons LaVontay (Markisha) Fenderson of Racine, WI. and LaQuan (Ashley) Fenderson of Milwaukee, WI.; 11 grandchildren; brothers Willie Bland of San Diego, CA., and Toney (Tina) Bland of Aldie, VA.; sisters Joyce (John) Hereford of Beloit, WI., Cynthia Holston of Waldorf, MD., and Geraldine Stokes of Shubuta, MS.; father-in-law William (Bell) Graham of Ripley, MS; brothers-in-law Lee (Janice) Graham, Stanley Knox and Tony (Tina) Speight all of Ripley, MS.; sister-in-law Wanda Graham of Toledo, OH.; many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and many dear friends. He was also very fond of his dogs, Buca, Knight and Max.

Stacey was preceded in death by his father and mother Willie and Ruby Bland; his grandparents Daniel Bland, Della Bland Jackson, Robert Miller, and Lucy Miller; God sister Vanessa Davis and his mother-in-law Lillie Graham.

A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021  10:00am at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1123 Center St., Racine, WI. Visitation will be in the church from 9:00am until the time of service. Interment will follow the service in Graceland Cemetery.

Facial coverings and social distancing guidelines must be followed at all times while in the church.

Barb and I would like to thank Gary and the entire staff for how wonderfully they handled the arrangements for our daughter Katie.

Gary took care of all the details and his suggestions and advice and the responsiveness of the entire staff were outstanding. We received a number of compliments from those attending the service.

We also appreciated Gary and the staff’s support and empathy to our family and guests.
