Thomas Grubb, age 69, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, stories, and memories.
Tom was the beloved husband of Pamela Grubb, loving father of Ryan Grubb (Steph), son of Norma Grubb, and brother of John Grubb (Mary). He was preceded in death by his father, Paul, and brother, Eric. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, neighbors, and the many people whose lives he touched.
Tom was never one to follow the crowd. He was an against-the-grain kind of man who walked the trail less followed, lived life in his own way, and found joy in the simple, meaningful things: nature, adventure, good company, a big bonfire, a good story, and a reason to bring people together.
He had a lifelong love for the outdoors, gardening, rocks, sailing, and hiking. He graduated from Central Michigan University, where he studied geology and environmental science. Tom dedicated more than 40 years to the water and wastewater industry, working in the design of drinking water treatment plants across the country. As he transitioned into retirement, Tom spent much of his time volunteering at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum, a place that meant a great deal to him and reflected so much of who he was.
More than anything, Tom will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He was a storyteller, a bonfire king, and the kind of person who could talk to anyone. He was generous and giving, a helpful friend, and never afraid to do things his own way. He had life lessons to share, usually delivered through a story, a laugh, or a moment that stayed with you long after.
Tom lived with a love for adventure and happiness. He believed in being outside, being together, and making memories. His family and friends will miss his warmth, humor, and unmistakable way of making life feel bigger and brighter.
