Upon graduating from Washington Park High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. His 20 year career choice led him down a wonderful life in aviation. He moved back home to Racine in 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Susan Bertram Goodland; their 3 sons, Walter Scott (Renee Schlabach) Goodland, Matthew Goodland and Christopher (Rhonda) Goodland. Additional survivors include 3 grandchildren, Christopher Goodland, Michael Goodland, Beth (David) Crochet. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry, Danny, and Jimmy Roushia; and sisters, Lila Strubing and Sandra Roushia and their spouses; sister-in-law, Betty (Raymond) Smith.
