Wilhelmina L. Powell

May 10, 1912 – Sep 12, 2007

Mrs. Wilhelmina L. Powell, 95, was received into God’s hands on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, after a choking incident at Oak Ridge Care Center of Union Grove, WI on Sept. 10th. She was born on May 10, 1912, to Lawrence and Johanna (nee: Vegel) Den Hartigh in Port Golden, NJ. She lived most of her life in Racine except for 10 years in Prairie du Sac, WI. Willi enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Club, playing Sheepshead , Bingo, traveling and eating out with her very dear friend of 12 years, Bill McIlvaine. In addition to Bill, Willi is survived by two sons, Lowell Powell of Denver, CO, and Darell Powell of Santa Fe, NM; one daughter, Diane (Tom) Hawkins of Grottoes, VA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nephews; nieces; cousins; and loving friends. She was preceded in death by brothers, John, Henry, Larry, and Donald; sisters, Cornelia and Jean; and ex-husband, C. Robert Powell of Park Ridge, IL. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the First Church of God, (1650 Lathrop Ave). There will be a visitation at the church from noon until the time of the service. Memorials may be sent to Restoration in Christ Ministries, PO Box 479, Grottoes, VA 24441.
