William A. “Billy” Hunter, 61, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on December 19, 2024.

He was born in Racine, WI, on January 10, 1963, the son of the late William E. Hunter Jr. and Nettie (née Anderson) Hunter.

Billy was a proud graduate of Washington Park High School and completed some college coursework.

A devoted member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and later St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Billy served as a Sunday School teacher, Trustee, and contributed to the music ministry by playing his bass guitar.

Billy married the love of his life, LaVetta Buckley-Hunter, and lovingly adopted her two children, embracing them as his own.

Professionally, Billy was employed by SC Johnson for over 25 years. Earlier in his career, he worked at Motorola and spent several years in the restaurant industry.

Billy was passionate about sports, cheering on his favorite teams, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed photography, capturing the beauty of nature and moments with people. Above all, he cherished time with his family and adored his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, LaVetta Buckley-Hunter; sons, Tyus Buckley-Hunter of Crandon, WI, and Tyler Buckley-Hunter of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, La’Montae Hagan and Corriana Golden of Racine, WI; sisters, JoAnn Hattix, Pamela Anderson, and Rosalind “Rockey” Thomas, all of Racine, WI, and Cheryl (Galen “Carlos”) Nelson of Kenosha, WI; special cousin, Philip Anderson of Lacey, WA; special nephews, Enous Anderson and E’Shawn Anderson, both of Racine, WI; godson, Donovan Cook; godsister, Charnette Barker-Anderson of Berkeley, CA; father-in-law, Jerry Buckley of Allen, TX; mother-in-law, Barbra Buckley of Racine, WI; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tamira Hamilton and Jerrad Buckley, both of Racine, WI. He is also survived by special extended family members, Darchell (Jewel) Rauter of Franklin, WI, and Donta Albritton of Racine, WI, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, William E. and Catherine (nee: Johnson) Hunter, and maternal grandparents, Albert H. and the Laura Ann (nee: Tenort) Anderson.

Family and friends are invited to gather at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 Grand Avenue, Racine, WI, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A service celebrating Billy’s life and Homegoing will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.

The Hunter family extends a heartfelt thank you to Aurora Hospice and Dr. Michael Mullane and the staff at Aurora Cancer Care for their compassionate care.

Testimonials

October 9, 2020

I would like to thank Mike Langendorf, Bill Althaus and the rest of the staff for the wonderful celebration of the life for my father Raymond L. Szymanski who was a WWII veteran. I especially appreciate how much you really listen and the questions you asked regarding who my father was and what he was all about. Those details showed up in every part of the service from the flowers, the music, the thank you’s, pictures, obituary, outdoor military honors, etc. etc. My father would have been so grateful for the way you honored his life. I also received phone calls from family and friends indicating how beautiful the service was in every way. You and your staff definitely go above and beyond. You treat everyone like family and your compassion is so genuine. There should be more people in the world just like all of you. No words can express our gratitude for all you have done for myself, my father and our family. Thank you so very much and may the Lord bless you and yours! Sincerely Terri Carls and the Szymanski Family
