Michael Robert Bertram

vet
Sep 15, 1944 – Nov 30, 2010

Mr. Michael R. Bertram, 66, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, November 30, 2010.

A lifelong resident of Racine, he was born on September 15, 1944, the son of Robert and Rose (nee: Borup) Bertram.  They preceded him in death.  He attended Washington Park High School.

Mr. Bertram served his country with the U.S. Army.  While stationed in Alaska he met the love of his life, Alice Wells.   They married on January 9, 1965.

Mr. Bertram retired from Govednik Automotive Transmission Specialists as a sales manager.  He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends.  He especially treasured his daily caretaking for his three year old granddaughter, Ava.

His survivors include his wife, Alice; his daughters, Cynthia (Jeffrey) McCarrier both of Racine, Michelle Schoettler; his son, Jesse Bertram both of Kenosha; grandchildren, Jason and Ava; sisters, Nancy (George) Schultz, Deborah (Richard) Hitzelberger both of Racine; brother-in-law, Ray (Carolyn) Wells of Anchorage, AK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.  He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Doris Maxim.  Mr. Bertram loved life and valued everyone he knew. He will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. for a visitation.  A celebration of his life and funeral service will take place at Gethsemane Lutheran Church (3319 Washington Ave.) on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Alice Horton officiating.  An interment service will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.   There will also be a visitation in the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m.

Alice, Cindy, Shelly and Jess and Families: I am so very sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories when I stayed with you and Mike a couple of weekends when I was in Lake Bluff for 2 weeks straight and all the times joking around with him on the phone when I would call. He was a great guy and a lot of fun. I had so much fun with you guys and wonderful memories. He was such an upbeat person. I was trying to find a way to get back to Racine, but flights were pretty outrageous. I will be in touch soon. Love you, Ann
