Mount Pleasant – Ronald N. Willing, Sgt. Racine County Sheriff’s Dept. (retired); age 78; passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at home early Saturday, July 11, 2020.

A lifetime resident, Ron was born in Racine on July 20, 1941 to the late Nicholas and Ruth (nee: Kennedy) Willing. Following graduation of Washington Park High School, Ron proudly served our country with the United States Army. Upon return from service, Ron joined the Racine County Sheriff’s Dept. to service our community. Simultaneously, he furthered his education at Carthage College where he earned a double major in criminal justice & sociology. Ron retired from the Sheriff’s Dept. in 1997.

On August 6, 1966 in Atonement Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage with Jean R. (nee: Hassel). Ron & Jean were longtime members of Atonement Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Sheriff’s Association. Ron enjoyed traveling with Jean, was an avid coin collector & was passionate about caring for his canine companions. Above all, Ron loved spending time with his entire family.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Jean; their daughter, Diane Weyker of West Allis; their son, Matthew (Angelina) Willing, serving with the US Navy in San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Jordan Willing, Jannah Willing, Alexander Short & Jayden Willing; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Fred David Hassel, Mary Reinders & Glen Hassel; nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. Ron was greeted in Heaven by his dear son, Ryan Neil Willing (who passed away at age 13 in 1986); dad & mom, Nicholas and Ruth (nee: Kennedy) Willing; and by Jean’s parents, Eugene & Helen (nee: Bodi) Hassel.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Mike and the staff went above and beyond during our very difficult time with passing of our Opa. Mike helped relieve the immense stress by being extremely professional, paying attention to the smallest details and the overall kindness and compassion in caring for our family at our time of need. We do not believe that a thank you truly covers our deep gratitude towards you. Thank you for everything you have done for us.
