Carlton F. Spieler

Nov 4, 1942 – Nov 6, 2021

Green Bay-Carlton “Carl” F. Spieler, 79, passed away on November 6, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Formerly of Racine, Carlton was born in Milwaukee, WI to Clarence and Gladys (nee: Hoernke) Spieler. He studied drafting at Boys Technical and Trade school “Boys Tech” in Milwaukee from which he graduated in 1962.

As a boy, Carl was an active member of the National Baton Twirling Association from 1953-1958 in which he earned several accolades for his talent. His achievements in baton continued into his young adulthood as he became a member of the Starlites Drum and Bugle Corp as drum major. He later went on to serve in the Wisconsin division of the National Guard and trained at Fort McCoy in Sparta, WI.

Carl was an avid railroad enthusiast. His passion for railroading began at an early age and continued on to his passing. His children vividly remember spending hot summer days in the Menomonee Valley in Milwaukee or at the train station in Sturtevant while watching the trains move about the area. In addition, Carl was talented in crafting model railroads. Meticulous in his craft, his detail and designs were often better than the original.

Carl was employed as a bus driver with the Milwaukee County Transit system, Wisconsin Coach Lines and Lamers Bus Lines. Once he moved to Green Bay, he worked in security at Lambeau Field and drove the “Madden Cruiser” bus for John Madden for 2 seasons.

Carl is survived by his children, Becky Enright, Curt Spieler and Wendi Smailes of Racine; grandchildren, Michael Ray Enright (Dayna Rustick) of Mosinee, Asheton Enright (Dominick Commodore), Alia Onaczynski, Jessica Smailes (Mario Munoz II), Courtney Smailes, and Nathan Wilson; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Dominick Jr., Mario III, Elizabeth, and Elessia, all of Racine.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gladys Spieler; his mother and father-in-law, Wendell and Bernice Braasch; his first wife, Judith Spieler; his second wife, Sandra Spieler; and his son-in-law Jeffrey Enright.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
