Wayne Joseph Kerkowski, Sr., 77, received the promise of eternal life on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at home surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born in Cicero, IL, on September 28, 1944, son of the late Edward and Anna (née: Kovacevich) Kerkowski.

Wayne was united in marriage to the love of his life, Victoria Elaine Detzel, on June 11, 1966, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Chicago.  Vicky preceded him in death on December 1, 2021.

Wayne owned Midway Truck and Equipment repair company for many years.  He then worked as a driver and eventually a dispatcher for Birchwood Foods until his retirement.  He enjoyed bowling in his younger days even on a team with his family and recently loved to watch his family bowl in leagues and tournaments.  Wayne was also a cub scout leader back in the day. Wayne loved playing football as a child and enjoyed golfing in Birchwood’s annual golfing tournament. He was a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers and tried to go to games when he could. Wayne was an avid fan of the TV series: NCIS, Blue Bloods, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead and made sure to update the family on the newest episodes and guessing the next plot twists. Above all, family was the most important to Wayne.  He would do anything for any one of his family members.

Wayne leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Melissa (Randy) Jansen; son, Wayne J. Kerkowski, Jr.; granddaughter, Amanda (Derek) Quella; great-granddaughters, Hannah Grace Quella, Mackenzie Lynn Quella, Olivia Jean Quella; uncle, Anthony (Patricia) Kovacevich; good friend, John (Laurie Ernst) Jacob; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne is preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Kerkowski; brother-in-law, Bryon Detzel; and in-laws, Jacob and Hazel Detzel.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, 11:00am, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road.  Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Racine.

A special thanks for the great care from Dr. Bandealy, Dr. Pothen and the Aurora Cancer Team.

Testimonials

November 13, 2019

The funeral service was just beautiful and very warming to everyone including my family. All the pictures they did and the employees were just fantastic. This is one funeral home I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to feel comfortable and to be treated like family. I can’t say enough good things because it was just such a warm welcome. Thank you to Mark and Mike. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
