Mount Pleasant – Anne Elizabeth (nee: Petersen) Haubrich, age 90, passed away at Primrose Senior Living Community Friday, March 14, 2025.

Anne was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 13, 1934 to Christ and Astrid (nee: Olesen) Petersen. In 1939, the Petersen family moved to Denmark, their ancestral home, where they resided for twelve years. They returned to the United States when Anne was seventeen.

Anne pursued her education, attending Washington Park High School in the day and vocational school in the evening to refine her English. Here she met Hans H. Haubrich, a new student who had recently immigrated from Germany. Upon seeing Anne, he declared to his family, ‘That is who I am going to marry.’ True to his words, their courtship soon began, culminating in a wedding on July 16, 1955. Anne and Hans shared 62 beautiful years of marriage.

Anne prioritized her role as a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, like cooking meals and welcoming family and friends into her home. Always the social butterfly, Anne was passionate about planning events, hosting parties and traveling. In Wisconsin, she planned many events for the women’s group of the Deutscher Männer Verein, serving as the organization’s president and maintaining involvement alongside Hans for 60 years. Anne and Hans spent 35 years wintering in Venice, Florida, where Anne enjoyed golfing and planning day trips and social gatherings for members of her community.

Another mainstay in Anne’s life began as a sewing circle in the early 1960s, eventually blossoming into a lifelong sisterhood for Anne and her Danish friends. Over the years, the needles and thread gave way to coffee and sweet treats, but the heart of their gathering remained unchanged: shared stories, unwavering support, and the comfort of true friendship. These women, now in their nineties, continue to meet, their bond remaining unbreakable.

Surviving are her son, Jeffrey (Joy) Haubrich; daughter, Erica (Jeffrey) Moranski; grandchildren, Kierstyn (Christopher Wohlgefahrt) Haubrich, Christian Haubrich, Melanie (Andrew) Preston and Jared (Hayley) Moranski; great-grandson, Jack Hans Preston (age 4 ½ months); sister-in-law, Barbara Haubrich; dear friend of 72 years, Marion Ludwig; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hans (passed away on January 21, 2018); brother, Erik (Pat) Petersen; brother-in-law, Stefan Haubrich and by Hans’ parents, Stefan and Anna Haubrich.

A heartfelt note of thanks to the staff at Primrose Community and Hospice Alliance for the compassionate care given to Anne, as well as to Jamie Kunaschak for her efforts to enhance the quality of life for both Anne and Hans. May God bless all of you!
