In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Church are appreciated.

David Arthur Standiford, 93, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Racine on September 5, 1932, to Ray and Anna (nee: Goldick) Standiford, Dave graduated from Washington Park High School with the Class of 1951 and attended the University of Wisconsin before proudly serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. In 2017, he was honored to participate in the “Honor Flight” to Washington DC.

On April 18, 1953, Dave married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Gene Elaine Hegge. Their marriage of nearly 73 years was a testament to true love, devotion, partnership, and unwavering commitment.

Dave began his career at Racine Stamping Corporation, a family business, at just eight years old. His strong work ethic and natural leadership were evident early on, and at age 35 he was promoted to Executive Vice President – a role he held until his retirement in 1993. After retiring, Dave and Gene moved to St. Germain, Wisconsin, where they cherished God’s creation, nature, and fishing, and they wintered in Maui, Hawaii, both places where all were welcomed to visit and enjoy time together. In 2016, they returned to Racine to be closer to their family he loved so deeply. For Dave, family always came first.

The name David means “beloved,” and he truly lived up to that name. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, coworker, boss, mentor, leader, and legacy builder – but most importantly, a beloved child of God. His family is profoundly grateful for the years of memories, family trips, laughter, celebrations, generosity, and traditions that shaped their lives. Anyone blessed to know him experienced his remarkable character. Together since second grade, Dave and Gene brought joy and energy wherever they went. Dave’s legacy has grown abundantly and continues to grow, living on in the hearts and memories of all who loved him. He was a man of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and a generous spirit. His kindness, integrity, and gentle presence touched everyone who knew him.

Dave will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, Gene; their children, Geri (Michael) Mainland, Candi (Gregg) Edgerle, Connie (Richard) Waschbisch, David (Jocelyn) Standiford, and Michael (Sheri) Standiford; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 28 great-grandchildren, with another expected in June. He is also survived by his sisters Pat Casperson and Kathy Griffin; brother-in-law Richard Hegge; many nieces and nephews; extended family; and countless dear friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law Walter Griffin, Tom Casperson, and Charles Miner; and sisters-in-law Lois Miner and Delores Hegge.

Dave’s family is thankful for the beautiful and compassionate care given by Gladys from Touching Hearts Senior Care, along with Home Helpers and Heartland Hospice.

Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held on Thursday, February 26, from 3:00pm until the time of the service at 6:00pm, at Grace Church, 3626 Hwy 31, Racine, WI 53405. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Church are appreciated.

While we grieve the loss of Dave’s earthly spirit, we rejoice in knowing

that he is in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

Aloha’Oe, until we meet again.

Testimonials

Thank you. When my

Thank you.
When my father and I would talk about his wishes for when he would leave this world, he always asked me who I would trust to treat his body with respect and dignity.
Always, without hesitation, I would respond with saying “Draeger”.
From someone who works in end of life care, I have witnessed the respect and dignity first hand for many years.
It was a pleasure working with Carly and having the reassurance that my father was in good hands <3
You all are truly a blessing!
Thank you.
