Dorothy Mae Stanton

Aug 5, 1917 – Jan 29, 2007

Racine- Dorothy Mae Stanton, 89, passed away at home, surrounded with the love of her entire family, on Monday, January 29, 2007. Dorothy was born in Marinette, WI on August 5, 1917 to the late Fred and Mae (nee: Garrett) Gouley. She lived most of her life in Racine. On October 29, 1947 in Waukegan, IL, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Stanley “Duke” Stanton. He preceded Dorothy in death on December 18, 2005. A loving and devoted homemaker, Dorothy was so proud of her entire family. She always made them her top priority in life. Duke and Dorothy welcomed her Mother into their home to care for her during the last years of her life. When Duke’s health failed, she again willingly took the role of caretaker and tirelessly tended to his needs. Prior to that time, they were devoted members of St. Lucy Catholic Church and they enjoyed going out for breakfast together almost everyday. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting; arts and crafts; and, of course, spending time with her family. Surviving are her twin sons, Daniel and Donald (Lori) Stanton, both of Chandler, AZ; youngest son, Dean (Lois) Stanton of Racine; grandchildren, Craig, Jacob, Deana, Casey and Annie; sisters-in-law, Estelle Stanton of Rockford, IL and Marion Stanton of Racine; many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Marie (Herbert) Elvers; mother-in-law, Helen Zukowski; and brothers-in-law, Frank Stanton, Leonard Stanton and Eugene (Ann) Stanton. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 6:00 pm with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. A reception will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 4-6 pm. In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation will follow the services with private entombment in West Lawn Memorial Park. A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staff of Hospice Alliance of Kenosha for the compassionate end-of-life care and support that was so warmly extended to Dorothy and to our family.
