Kenosha – George E. “Chaw” Moskopf, 97, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on September 29, 2009 at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha. George was born August 2, 1912 in Kenosha, WI. He was the son of Lois and Mathilda (nee: Wellman) Moskopf. George was married (for 71 years) to Rose (nee: Springer) of Pleasant Prairie on Aug 13th, 1938 at Friedens Ev. Lutheran Church in Kenosha. She survives him. Also surviving is their son, Martin G. Moskopf, and his wife, Sandra (nee: Naegeli). George was especially proud of his three grandsons; Matthew Moskopf of Kenosha, Michael Moskopf of Milwaukee, and Jon and Jennifer (nee: Roundtree) Moskopf of Chicago, IL. George was preceded in death by his parents. Lois and Mathilda; and brother, Rudy Moskopf. George’s parents were farmers and he often spoke of many hot summer nights doing chores on the farm. His later working years were at the Kenosha Full Fashioned Mills. George retired from American Motors in Kenosha where he spent 33 years as the Manager in the Export Sales Department. He had many business friends throughout the world. George also spent some time at Isermann Brothers Clothing Store in downtown Kenosha and, during the 60’s, served the City of Kenosha as an Alderman in the 17th Ward. George believed that fitness was essential to a long and happy life. He enjoyed refereeing basketball, running road races and also cross-country cycling. His hobbies included fishing, golfing and bowling. He liked reminding his grandsons that he had a hole-in-one and also converted the 7-10 split. George also won the “City Pin Tournment” in 1940 with a 741 series – 90 pins better then his nearest competitor. George and Rose liked to spend their summers in the North Woods of Wisconsin. They also spent 20 years of their retirement in Zephyrhills, FL. During that time, he and some friends founded Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church – a church that is still up and running today. George spent nearly his entire life as a member of Friedens Church, here in Kenosha. He also spent 75 years as a member of the WELS Ken-Wis Club, and was a member of MGV Harmonia. Buisness ventures also provided him with the opportunity to become a member of the “Turtle Club”, for people involved in foreign sales.
Funeral services will be held in Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5038 – 19th Ave. in Kenosha, on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00 am with Rev. David Rockhoff officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 pm and in the church on Saturday from 9-10 am. Memorials to the “Tuition Assistance Funds” of Friedens Lutheran School or Shoreland Lutheran High School has been suggested.
