Gualterio "Walter" Luis Wilckens

Nov 24, 1931 – Apr 21, 2021

Service Details

In accordance with Walter’s wishes, private family services will be held to celebrate his life.

Mount Pleasant – Gualterio “Walter” Luis Wilckens, age 89, passed away peacefully at home, in the comfort of family, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

One of five children, Walter was born in Santiago, Chile on November 24, 1931 to the late Walter and Elizabeth (nee: Von Stillfried) Wilckens. After serving in the Chilean military, and working in Germany and England, returned home to take over the family farm, which he did tirelessly and with great pride. On October 9, 1965 he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Patricia (nee: Morales) Wilckens in Vina Del Mar, Chile.

Unfortunately, years later, the Chilean government took over their farm land and forced them out of their home. Walter gathered what little he had, and in search of a better life for his young family, began traveling worldwide to find a new home. He lived & worked in Spain for six years before eventually settling here in Racine, WI. Fluent in five languages and with an impressive background in farming, Walter was recruited by JI Case Co. to be their International Parts Manager, from where he retired.

Surviving are his children, Walter (Lisa) Wilckens, Pablo (Colleen) Wilckens and Antje (Juan Carlos Duque) Wilckens; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kayla Ricchio) Wilckens, Elizabeth (Robert Sherman) Wilckens, Mitchell Wilckens, Kylie Wilckens,  Natalia Duque Wilckens, Karina Duque Wilckens, Matias Duque wilckens ;great grandchildren, Ana Sofia Kaftanski Duque, Lucia Paz Kaftanski Duque; sister, Sylvia Wilckens-Von Stillfried; brother, John Wilckens; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and worldwide friends – too numerous to mention all by name.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Wilckens, who died on June 13, 2015; brothers, Rupi and Braulio Wilckens; and brother-in-law, Hans Storandt.

In accordance with Walter’s wishes, private family services will be held to celebrate his life.

My sympathy to the family….Walter was my friend, my brother in law while I was married to his brother Rupert and the uncle of my children Christian and Paola Wilckens Pamparana. We didn’t keep much contact on our later years but I was in permanent contact with his brother Johannes and sister Sylvia, both from Chile. Thru them always new about him and his family. While I stayed in Chile I enjoy too a sincere friendship with his wife Patricia.
I will always remember them both…”Waty” (we used to call him so) I wish you a happy journey to your new adventure, my love to Patricia and may we meet again somewhere, again.!

Un gran saludo postrero para un buen amigo, compartimos pocos momentos laborales, pero imposible olvidar que fueron los mejores que tuvimos.
Gracias por las atenciones que me entregaste.
    Jorge.

Testimonials

December 18, 2024

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didn’t stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.

Hilda Balderas
