Mary Olive Henes

Aug 29, 1932 – Sep 21, 2014

Sturtevant – Mary Olive Henes, 82, received the promise of eternal life on Sunday, September 21, 2014, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born in Sturtevant on August 29, 1932, daughter of the late Frank and Ida (nee: Belanger) Newton.

Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Arthur Henes, on February 7, 1953, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church.  Donald preceded her in death on May 17, 1987.

Mary graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1950.  She was a homemaker for her family and a “mom” to many children during her life, including her HI-O Gang children.  So many lives have been touched by her love and affection.

Mary was an avid golfer and was one of the original members of the Washington Park Golferettes.  She once even scored a hole-in-one on the old 8th hole.  Mary and Donald were members of Meadowbrook Country Club for many years.  Mary continued with her membership even after Don passed away. Mary and Don were Green Bay Packer season ticket holders for 20 years.

Mary was also a member of the Red Hat Society.  She loved, loved, and loved to play cards, especially Sheepshead and Cribbage.  She also was very fond of dancing and enjoyed time spent on the dance floor with Don.  Don and Mary were members of St. Sebastian Catholic Church for many years until Mary’s health no longer allowed her to attend.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michael (Carol) Henes, Greg (Wendy) Henes, John (Diana) Henes, Nancy (Randal, Sr.) Storbeck, Connie (Chuck) Kirchner; grandchildren, Denise, Katie, Misty, Donny (Kayla), Daniel, Steven, Nathaniel, Randal, Jr., Patricia (Steve), Emily (Andrew) ; great-grandchildren, Paige, Jordan, Kayla & Levi ; sisters, Laurel Gehrig, Valerie (Tom) Keyes; brothers-in-law, Jim (Lorraine) Henes, Phil Klinkhammer; sister-in-law, Carol Newton; special niece, Kathy DeBoer; other relatives, dear friends, and all of her “kids” from over the years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her sister, Faith Klinkhammer; brothers, Francis Newton, Greg Newton; and brother-in-law, Vern Gehrig.

A memorial celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Friday, September 26, 2014, 3:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of the service.  Private burial will take place prior to the visitation at West Lawn Memorial Park.  The family has suggested memorials to the Racine County Food Bank or the Wisconsin Humane Society.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the staff of Wheaton Franciscan Hospice, especially Cathy and Holly, for the care and love given to our mother during her time of illness.  Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Testimonials

Thank you so very much for the exemplary care that you provided for both our mom and dad. Your family is extremely kind and exudes much empathy towards others. You and your staff display much professionalism with great talent and attention to detail. Mom and dad were always very particular in their appearance. Mom would say, You are leaving a lasting impression of yourself with someone to remember you by. Your parents taught you boys well; be very proud of that! Love on them, as death is so very permanent.

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.

I thank God every day for our Ostergaard family and will always cherish the memories.

Love you,

Jody Burlingame Wagner
