RACINE – Mr. Raymond Steger (Corky), 92, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 25, 1929, however he was raised in Hayward, Wisconsin.

Corky proudly served his nation with the US Army 11th Airborne Division 187 RCT “Angels,” where he performed two combat jumps during the Korean War. His military service profoundly influenced his life. He was grateful to recently have the chance to participate in the Honor Flight.

On January 11, 1953, he married Sally Ann Tharinger. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2007.

Corky retired from ISE as a machinist. He was a fun loving, practical joker that enjoyed the simple things in life; fishing, golfing, reading, watching the Packers, playing cribbage, and relaxing with a warm rum and coke. Corky also loved spending time up at the cottage on Pine Lake. He had many friends that he loved sitting in the sun, talking and sharing a cold one.

He is survived by his daughters and son, Carol (Dick) Deverney, Joni Mayfield, Jacque (Muhammad) Majeed and Steve (Lyn) Steger; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Reynolds; his five grandchildren, Michelle, Taylor, Danielle, Jason and Wayne; many great grandchildren, his sister, Donna Thome; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends, especially his Teezers family, which meant very much to Corky. In addition to his wife, Sally, he was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Edward Wieler; his son, Jim Reynolds; his grandson, Danny Mayfield; his sister, June (Fritz) Vogel; his son-in-law, Clarence Mayfield; and his brother-in-law, David Thome.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, for a visitation from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. A short service will follow at 5:00 p.m. and will conclude with military honors. Attendees are encouraged to share a memory or short story as part of the service. A private interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials have been suggested to the Honor Flight Network (https://www.honorflight.org/donate-online.html).

Corky’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Ridgewood Care Center for the loving and professional attention he received while under their care.

Corky was one heck of a friend, neighbor, golfing buddy, and drinking partner on the beach of Pine Lake. I’m really going to miss his jokes, his laughter, and his companionship. Rest in peace buddy! Pine Lake will never be the same without you my friend. ❤

I lost my parents withing two years of each other and Mike and his staff not only took very good care of my parents but the family. It is very obvious that they take their jobs very seriously.
