A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 11:00am, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service. Private interment for family will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

LaVonna M. Berard, passed away on January 3, 2018, at Ridgewood Care Center at the age of 96.
Born in Charles City, Iowa on March 4, 1921. She was united in marriage to Clifford C. Berard on March 6, 1943. Clifford preceded her in death on August 13, 1985.
She was a long-time resident of Racine, graduating from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1942. She was a faithful member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church.
LaVonna will be sadly missed by her children; Pamela (Robert) Gibson, Kim (Janet) Berard, her grandchildren; Anne Gibson, Jennifer (Christopher) Lingard, David (Barbara) Berard, and her great-grandchildren; Corbin Lingard, Josie Lingard, Ruby Jean Berard and Spencer Lingard, and her much loved nieces and nephews. We wish to also acknowledge and thank her special long-time friend and St. Luke’s School of Nursing classmate, Margaret (Muggs) Seeter.
In addition to her parents, she was more recently preceded in death by her brothers, Delbert Cottier of South Milwaukee and Ronald Cottier of Franklin.

The family wishes to pass on a heartfelt thanks to her Ridgewood Care Center Staff and her Hospice Alliance caretakers.

I can see why the Good Lord waited 96 years to call on Ma Berard because he sure has his hands full now. She could be as tough as a worn pair of overhauls but still carried in her a heart of gold.
Keep the coffee pot on Mrs. B. There’s going to come that day when all your “boys” will be sitting around the kitchen table again.

With heavy hearts we dearly miss Aunt LaVonna, however, our memories are abundantly filled with wonderful memories of her and Uncle Cliff. God and fellow angels will be forever entertained and impressed by her quick mind and ability to find and express humor in any situation. You can bet Uncle Ron was one of the first to greet his big sister since even in heaven, he knows she will keep him in line and look after him. Bob & I wish to send our deepest sympathy to our neighbors, Pam & Bob Gibson, & their families. I had the opportunity to see LaVonna several times, the last time when our church did Caroling at Ridgewood in December.
Her sweet smile & laughs will be remembered. May she Rest in God’s arms.
