Roberta Jean (nee: Vaughn) Prewitt, age 78, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital on Friday, January 8, 2016.
Roberta was born in Greenville, Mississippi on November 4, 1937. At a young age she and her family migrated to Waukegan, Illinois where she attended and completed High School. Roberta accepted Christ at an early age and was united with Greater Mount Eagle Baptist Church in the early 1960’s. Roberta met and on June 5, 1954 married her one and only husband, Milton Prewitt in Waukegan, Illinois. Their union was blessed with six children. She was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital and Ridgewood for over Twenty-Five years. She retired in 1992. She really enjoyed attending church where she served faithfully as a choir member until her health began to fail. She also enjoyed attending church and shopping. Roberta was very generous, had a kind spirit, very loyal and she was the greatest listener. She had and infectious laugh and a wonderful sense of humor but more than anything else she loved spending time with her family and friends. Roberta was preceded in death by her sons, Jeffrey Prewitt Sr. and Vaughn E. Prewitt; grandsons, Jeffrey J. Bird Jr. and Brandon Billups; both of her parents; her in-laws, John (Ester) Prewitt and her brothers, Billy Vaughn, Johnny Vaughn, Louis Vaughn Sr. and Ernest Vaughn, as well as several very special friends. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her husband Milton of Sixty One Years; her children, Steven (Michelle) Prewitt of Clinton, Maryland, Melinda Billups of Racine, Wisconsin, Kimberly Prewitt of Racine, Wisconsin and Victor (Celestina) Prewitt of Mascoutah, Illinois; Grandchildren, Vadell, Dionte (Stephanie), Jonynesia (Fred), Lemina, Kyle, Anthony, Justin, Julius (Katrina), Jonas and Jalyn; great-grandchildren, Myakia, Anitras, Quinton, Caleb, Demetria, Origin, Kennedi, Cameron and Syia; one sister, Lillian (Ken) Hadley and a host of many nephews, nieces, cousins, co-workers, church family and friends too numerous to mention by name. A celebration of Roberta’s life will take place on Thursday, January 14th, 11:00am, at Greater Mt. Eagle Missionary Baptist Church, 929 State Street, with Rev. Keith T. Evans officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

What can one say to a family 👪 when God takes one of their most prized possessions? Nothing that will ease the pain,or comfort them in your time of need. But I do know that our God doesn’t make any mistakes and he knows all the soldiers on the battlefield who have fought their best fight, and when its time for them to come home. Praying 🙏 that you all remain strong in your faith.

Victor, Dawn and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family.
After the clouds, the sunshine
After the winter, the spring
After the shower, the rainbow
For life is a changeable thing
After the night, the morning,
bidding all darkness cease
After life’s cares and sorrows,
The comfort and sweetness of peace.
