Anita E. Euwing was born on January 8, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Savannah and James L. Evans, Sr. She graduated with honors from McKinley High school, Chicago, IL.  Anita was united in marriage to Ralph Euwing on April 12, 1943. Ralph brought to this union a daughter, Patricia Van Liew whom she loved dearly.

Anita was gainfully employed 31 years with the Veterans Administration where she received several performance awards, promotions and recognition. Anita fought for opportunities that promoted women to higher paying positions in government.

Anita was affectionately known by her family as “Auntie.” Anita was thoughtful, generous, kind and a very nice person to be around.  Anita was a quiet person but tough and out spoken when needed. She loved to spend time with family and friends and rarely missed a birthday acknowledgment.  She loved the theater, movies, dogs, and birds.  She enjoyed cooking for family on special occasions as well as eating out at different ethnic cuisines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James L. Evans and Savannah (nee: Matthews) Evans, her husband, Ralph (Tony) Euwing; stepdaughter, Patricia Van Liew; siblings, brother, James Jr. (Les)  Evans, brother, Vincent Evans Sr.; sisters, Lorraine Minor and Lorrelle Evans; special nephew and niece, Vincent Evans Jr. and Cecelia Ann James and special  friend, Ida Mae Coles.

Anita passed away quietly in her sleep at St. Catherine’s Hospital, Kenosha, WI on November 1, 2018. She will be missed greatly by her family and everyone who knew her. She leaves to mourn her death, step grandchildren Gary, Kim, Jeffrey, Robin, Patrick and Brett, nieces Yvonne, Rochelle, Barbara, Donna, and Karen, and a host of great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Testimonials

August 1, 2025

Gary is a warm, kind, loving, human being. He seems to have passed that quality onto the rest of his family. I have deep respect for him and his family. I have been able to say goodbye to several of my friends in this beautiful facility. God Bless.

Brian Friss
