Betty Elizabeth Stevens

Racine – Elizabeth “Betty” Stevens, 73, passed away at WFH All Saints Hospital on Sunday, August 18, 2013. She was born on November 23, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey, daughter of the late William and Lucille (nee: Derbes) McGarry. Betty was married to Roger Stevens in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 18, 1962.

Betty graduated from Loyola University – New Orleans, and then began her early career as an English teacher. She and her family moved to Racine in 1984, where she began her new career as President and CFO of Custom Express, Inc. Betty enjoyed many hobbies; including photography, gardening, and spending time watching the birds come to the feeders placed in her garden. Most of all she loved caring and nurturing her children and grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband, Roger Stevens of Racine; daughters Meg (Shane) Ladner of Canton, Georgia and Courtney Chiappetta of Racine; son Bill (Cyndi) Stevens of Salem; grandchildren Elizabeth, Molly, and William Chiappetta, Victoria, and Paige Stevens; sisters Margaret (Pat) Granier of Lacombe, Louisiana, Suzanne Hanisee of Panama City, Florida, and Willa (Ed) Nadalin of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews Erin Sumrall of The Woodlands, Texas, Shannon Burke of Woodstock, Georgia, Sean Burke of Clearwater Beach, Florida, and Stephen Nadalin of Austin, Texas.

Memorial services for Betty will be held at St. Richard’s Catholic Church at 5pm on Monday, August 26, 2013. Visitation will begin at 4pm. Private committal services will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. 

A special thank you to Dr. Ryan Engel and the staff at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care for the compassionate care. 

Flower arrangements are being handled by Miller’s Flowers, Racine. 

Memorials in her name to St. Richard’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
