Carl E. Begh, Jr.

vet
Feb 10, 1924 – May 9, 2010

Mr. Carl E. Begh, Jr. (formerly of Kenosha and Racine) passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010.

He was born in Kenosha on February 10, 1921 to the late Carl and Babetta (nee: Wecklein) Sr.   His early years were spent in Philadelphia, PA., Ridgefield, NJ., Melrose, MA., and Kenosha.

Graduating from Kenosha High School in 1938, he spent the ensuing 1 ½ years in Co. 651 Civilian Conservation Corps in Florence County, WI.  This was followed by employment at Jockey Menswear, Simmons Co., Huber Glass Co., and T.C. Esser Co. in Racine.  Prior to his retirement, he managed the latter two businesses for 25 years.

On March 27, 1943, he married the former Edith Beich in Portage, WI.

He served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Southwest Pacific with the 475th Fighter Group from Brisbane, Australia to Okinawa, earning six campaign citations.

While living in Racine, Mr. Begh was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

An avid traveler, he set foot in five continents, fifty states and six Mexican provinces. He also enjoyed making things grow and as a result became an eager gardener.

In addition to his wife, Edith of Pewaukee, his survivors include his daughter, Pamela (Tom) Duckett of Sarasota, Florida, Amy (John) Mason of Sussex, WI; grandchildren, Heather (Will) Daugherty of Dallas, TX, Alexandra (Dan) Martino of Osprey, FL; Katharine, Jacob, Jeremy and Andrew Mason of Sussex, WI; great granddaughter, Adelle Daugherty and sister-in-law, Lila Rietman of Merrimac, WI.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Messiah Lutheran Church (3015 Pritchard Dr. in Racine) on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of Carl’s life and funeral service with Rev. Dr. Leland Longrie officiating.  There will be a visitation in the church from 10-11 a.m.  An interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Somers.  Memorials have been suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
