Raymond – Roger Gilbert Paap, age 77, passed away at home on Monday, April 28, 2025 just a few weeks after being diagnosed with ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Roger was born in Racine, WI on February 2, 1948 to the late John M. and Lucienne (nee: Boniface) Paap. He was a 1966 graduate of Washington Park High School where he ran track & cross country. Roger had been employed as a machinist at Styberg Engineering for over 30 years.
Lutheran by faith, Roger loved: music (he played guitar in a band in his younger days), history, collecting things: typewriters & antiques just to name a few, and watching old western shows – especially The Rifleman. But his biggest passion was driving, he still owned and drove a car with a stick shift.
Roger treasured his time with his family and will be dearly missed. He will be remembered for just being himself! You don’t run into too many people like Roger… unique and special…good ole’ Roger!
Surviving are his niece, Nicole A. Meissner; beloved cousins, Edie (Dan) Wolter, Cheryl (Frank) Angelini, Dave Paap Jr., Debbie (Dan) Tuttle, Jackie (Dave) Tuttle, Mary (Jeff) Hoffmann, Tom Paap, John (Robin) Paap, Chris (Kadee) Paap and Kathy (Jeff) Vogt; other relatives & friends – too numerous to mention all by name.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Francis “John” (Nedra) Paap; nephew, Andrew “Drew” Marheine; aunt, Jeanette (George) Smardon; uncles, Dick (Barbara) Paap & Dave (Colleen) Paap.

Sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. I used to see him when I rode my bike to my dad and uncles’ garage, E&W. Such a nice guy. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I met Roger in 1968 or 69 at RTI (Racine Technical Institute) where we were taking auto servicing. I took a shine to him almost immediately. We became friends and had lots of good memories. Working on cars, a motorcycle trip to Canada, Going to the bars once in a while, Hanging around at E&W body shop. Driving all over the place to find parts for our cars. He was a great guy. God Bless You Roger.
