Julie’s Personal Touch

Mt. Pleasant – Glen F. Heflen, 66, passed away unexpectedly at Froedtert South in Pleasant Prairie on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. He was born in Racine on September 18, 1951 the son of the late Franklin and Catherine (nee: Sherman) Heflen. Glen was a lifetime resident of Racine; and attended Case High School and Gateway Technical College. He was married to Mary at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on July 25, 1987. He was a Tool & Die Maker by trade and worked for many years at EC Styberg Engineering, and Racine Railroad Products.

In Glen’s early years, he loved going fast. He drag raced his 1964 Dodge at Great Lakes Dragway every chance he could. He also worked on mini stocks and modified racing teams. For that last 25 years, Glen loved customizing old cars… from a ‘32 Hudson to ‘58 Ford Station wagon and everything in between. He would tell anyone “I used to build them to go fast, now I build them for comfort”. While he was passionate about making the car “just right”, it was the road trips in the car to the many cars show that he treasured the most. From his “Once in a lifetime…” LA Roadster Show (which he and many of his great friends did 10 times) to the weekend Chicken Show at Old Settlers park. He made every trip an adventure.

Glen is survived by his loving wife, Mary Heflen of Mt. Pleasant; son Jordan Heflen of Kenosha; brother Gary (Annette) Heflen of St. Charles, Illinois; sisters Gail (“Dick”) Otwaska of Racine, and Gina (Louie) Toutant of Yorkville. He was also preceded in death by his son Franklin John Heflen.

Memorial services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Public visitation from 3pm-5pm, followed by the memorial service at 5pm. Memorials to the Rawhide.org have been suggested.

Glen was a wonderful man. I have nothing but great memories of tagging along with my dad out to “the shop” on the weekends to pay him a visit. Not to mention the countless stories I’d hear from my parents about my dad’s best friend…. I am so sorry for your loss.

I’m shocked and saddened by the news that Glen passed. Mary and Jordan I am so sorry for your loss. Glen was such a great guy and friend for many years. Mary, I still tell people about my crazy friends who insisted on going to the race track on their wedding night! Even though we’ve lost touch over the years, if we saw each other we could pick up like it was yesterday. I’m sending prayers and hugs for you as you go through this difficult time. Love, Gail Nelson Mattie
