Indianapolis (formerly of Racine) – Loretta Henderson, age 68, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 29, 2024.

Loretta was born in Newport, AR on August 27, 1956 to Charles and Josephine (nee: Cole) Ellison. Her parents preceded her in death. Loretta moved to Chicago with her family in 1958 where she completed her education. After high school, Loretta was united in marriage to Edward Henderson, and he too preceded her in death. Among her interests, Loretta enjoyed dancing; was an outstanding cook; had quite the appetite for food; never met a crossword puzzle she could not complete; had quite the artistic eye for coloring; had her favorite TV shows, like General Hospital, The View; kept up with local and national news; did not miss watching Joel Osteen on Sunday mornings; and first and foremost, loved spending time with her family and friends, especially the children. Loretta regularly attended Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Chicago.

In addition to her husband and parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her son, Vaughn Ellison; sisters, Anita Lynch, Sharon Ellison and Trina Ellison; grandparents, Charles and Ida Ellison, Sr., Lillian Robertson, and Jesse Cole; uncles, Clyde Cole of Inkster, MI, Johnnie Robinson and Junior Robinson, both of Lake City, FL; one niece; and four nephews.

Special thanks to Mike Langendorf….many tears of joy overwhelm the family. You are a very unique person.  I cry because you know how to make the best out of any situation. You lay my husband away beautifully and there are not words that I can really express how grateful I am. All the people at your funeral have my gratitude for the love and care you showed us.   You all are truly God fearing people who care about people.  Thanks and may God bless you all richly!   The Coleman’s
